A twisted shadow, a broken day
it always seemed to end that way
once upon a time it was so grand
happy days followed hand in hand

The country was young and freshly varnished
its history to this day was untarnished
through battles of empire and wars of words
through blood and courage she fought the struggle

Standing on her feet was fine for a while
the people laughed and raised a smile
on the sheep’s back they rode the storm
exporting meat and keeping fires warm

While the white man continued to move ahead
the country changed and the people fled
materialism flourished and emptiness grew
til all that was left was the kangaroo

When at this time the black man came
he shouted and cried this is my land
the cockatoo shrieked you can have it my man
for all that was left were empty souls
that could never fill these newly dug holes

So he sang, danced and raised a thought
of all the objects they’d sold and bought
and he said to himself well what a price
to sell your self and give up your life

say a prayer

The little boy cried
bottom lip outstretched
he didn’t understand
could not but comprehend
nor could I
I wanted it all to end

Finances
muddles
pieces in between
what for all the bereft
stomped on by the mean
what for all the refugees
sailing endlessly
what for all the vilified
by the so called Christian faith

Say a prayer for tomorrow
for all those in between
give me an ounce of strength
to fight for all that’s true
help me sleep tonight
let me make it through
hold me close my sweetheart
say a prayer
for me and you

I was caught between the hammer and it’s vice
unable to think twice
or go straight once again
to walk the honest line

As a child washed in whitened robes
I had bathed in innocence
today I prayed for such clarity
for but chance again
today I longed for childhood
remembering way back when

DAYLIGHT, poem, poetry, Relationships

Daylight awoke
inside my place
broken windows
a damaged face
sliding over floorboards
into the light
wandering back again
into the night

You stayed in the dark
I didn’t much mind
cracks appeared in me
I was harder to find

legs

the top of her ankles
glided easily beneath her knees
toward her thighs
against the breeze
as her skirt flew upwards
to torso height
uncovering her briefs
in broad daylight
he remembered the powder
she would smother on her ass
the body wash
she would slither inside
he remembered
her breasts
as they danced tall
watching from above
over it all
her neck sitting proudly
answering the call
of a gorgeous mouth
met with beautiful lips
then one button nose
with eyes gazing forth
his stare to hold
with her forehead
so straight
tall and proud
he found her hair
pretty yet loud
he longed for her skirt
to blow far away
far from her briefs
bringing her
his way
for he wanted to consume her
to eat her whole
to smell
then devour her
once and for all
his thirst was deep
his desire was keen
she was a paradigm shift
a surreal dream

eating quietly

children, family, life, lonely, men, parents, poem, poetry

The photos leaned awkwardly
unable to stand up straight
her shower fell in gusts
distant toward the night
where flying foxes confused
the autumn evening chill
they needed to move north now
far from his lonely hill

The children sat eating quietly
attempting to read their books
as planes flew south
gently overhead
he could feel his body itching
anxious to get away
as she drew the shower curtain back
maybe now he’d stay

Her hair was washed and easy
sheltering her grin
flung open at uncertain intervals
dancing upon her skin
yet out within his night
the stars did swathe and sway
tempting him to enter
asking him to play

Should he move with the wind?
Or walk on back inside?
Meet the night time traffic?
Or forever lay still
and subside?
I think I’ll walk away
He said now to himself
the night time sky looks beautiful
I’ll keep it to myself

Autumn, children, couples, love, poem, us

tumblr_nm9ybjkDEC1tizzv2o1_500

soon the sun awoke
behind our mountains sway
drawing the curtain
on another autumn day
warmth swallowed briefly
a cool change descending from above
as you signaled to me softly
in need of some love

perhaps our son had tripped
or misplaced his cozy rug
either way I was content
to fall within your gate
for tonight I needed your arms
wrapped around me til late

Pass me my bat
ball and chain
pass me a hat
I’ll take on the rain
raincoats for warmth
just aren’t my style
throw me a kiss
to keep for a while

I walk north, east then west
waving at neighbours
as they carry on in life
feeding those dogs
chicken and geese
or dishing out milk
to the shed’s new cat
who to this fine afternoon
has yet to kill a rat

Two branches shaded the outside lamp
dampness scuttled down Military Road
slowing only to round the bend
that fell into Bondi

Cars
chasing night sounds below
tourists
their buses had all gone home

Crashing against the foreshore
the waves collided with northbound traffic
distant steps stood
to Bondi’s northern gate

He heard an echo
of rubber to tar
the rattle of chain
a fallen sigh
the drip of rain
Bondi

Golfers at Bondi
golfers
Saturdays
wandering in disjointed lines
toward the blue horizon
trees
blowing the paspalum against golf balls
scattering bowerbirds

Blowing me back inside
to Saturdays
with their golf tees and greens
dissected by red flags

Golf balls
pushing themselves toward the ocean
stranded
gathered up again
by the cluster of men

Who golfed the cryptic sky
on the blue
blue green
of Bondi
