you asked me for a poem

You asked me for a poem
I found it difficult to find
voices in the distance
blurring a distracted mind
focus now I thought
re enter the poems scene
open up my mind
to the softness in between

where your collar meets your neck
warm to my faces feel
loving being up close
verging on the surreal
let me lay forever
beneath your calming breath
accept my lips sweet kiss
as a gift to your beautiful neck

Birds sang out of step
occasioning a whistle
cattle foraged on forth
in touch with morning dew
a light breeze met tall trees
above his morning brew
as dogs howled in the distance
angling for their stew

The light soon met moving clouds
above the mountains beyond
before blue sky appeared
the night now all but gone
just as the papers pages
began to turn one on one
two small feet appeared
beneath his smiling son

Then as the sun shone forth
she suddenly glanced his way
reminding of the warmth
that greeted him each day
a weakness within his heart
echoed through to his spine
loving her so much
as fingers intertwine

WILDsound Festival

Watch the Poetry Reading of THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM:

Poetry performed by Steve Rizzo:

Get to know poet Sasha Holden:

1) What is the theme of your poem?

The theme is centered around the beauty, serenity and peacefulness of a river at those moments prior to the outbreak of a storm. Those moments before the environment takes a paradigm shift transforming itself into a sea of lightning wind and rain. The contrast between where we as people were moments before, to moments after this shift is outstanding.

2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

I would like for people to realize that the environment and world in which we live is overpowering, and that we as people are a part of it, can experience it, yet have little influence on the ever changing and beautiful being known as nature.

I could feel age gripping hold
as the stirrup iron caught my cheek
the ride had made me tired
again my legs felt weak
endeavoring to lighten the mood
I joked aside our fire
before gathering my thoughts again
of us and me then you
perhaps with winter behind us
I could find new life in spring
I wanted so desperately to be well
to find myself once more
yet the dogs in the distance warned me
barking into our night
tomorrow would see me weaker
soon I could no longer fight

Yet your breath was soft
then calm
like a peaceful bird in flight
tranquil now at depth
guiding me toward the light

fractions

I divided my life into pieces
unsure of where it would end
was I in the first half
or nearing the final bend
perhaps I was in my first third
or was I in my last
with evening now upon us
not much of today to pass

Yet either way twas just fractions
but numbers in my head
tonight I’d again lye peacefully
alone with you in bed
quietly on my side
away from the scuttle of rain
aside my scent filled candle
releasing me again

Back toward my spirit
with her compass
and her moon
deep inside your soul
at the center of our room

beach, boy, brothers, poem, poetry, sisters

He lifted through the wave
then looked further out
they were diving in the distance
too far away to shout
soon the waves reappeared
to wash him back toward shore
his feet were somewhat uncertain
captured within the sea floor
Soon the others returned
to gather his thoughts back in
his elder brothers and sisters
in tune with his new found grin
for the warmth of their kindness
incepted his anxious soul
delivering him their love
returning to days of ole

Holding hands
and hugging wet swimmers
then kissing salty lips
drying his short blond hair
readjusting the swimmers upon his hips
as the sound of crashing waves
soon distracted the lighthouse beyond
once again they retreated
back into each other to bond

For blood on blood ran deep
and despite his tender age
he was aware of the need to connect
with his family whatever their stage
impressed by the hot beach sand
he stood gathering their thoughts as one
their beach umbrella stood proud
his life had just begun

gladtoknowcha: Jeremy Irons By Andre Rau

The light flickered at intervals
toward his searching eyes
eager for more sunlight
dogs anxious to frolic then play
a distant tractor sound
reminding him of his day
diesel dust and dirt
constantly flying his way

Her hand was soft and smooth
inviting to his touch
restless tired and removed
adjusting his seat too much

Till finally he caught a glimpse
of her keen and wanton smile
asking him to give it all up
to stay with her for a while

A daughters call

The phone rang
he slowly approached the hand piece
“Hello” he stuttered
out into the distance
a dark room lit in a circle around his phone
the lamp light flickering infrequently
in tune with his mind
“I’ll be fine” he said
returning the incoming concerns
his voice
soon sporadic
clutching to his words

If only he could turn back the clock
to a wit
sharp and sure
he listened intently to her love
gentle
compassionate
and sure

a daughters call

Beth pulled her mini dress up
to rest above her thighs
she searched beneath her now wet knickers
with her wanton anxious eyes
her clit was strong and hot
she sighed an eager moan
“what was that she whispered”
returning to the phone
“goodnight Beth” he repeated softly
“I love you very much’
“Me too” she replied
returning to her crutch
before pressing the end button in
to hang up from his voice
then closing her eyes to picture him
breathing harder
without a choice

Sliding her second hand lower
Beth pushed her index finger in
the warmth now burning inside her
in love with her smooth moist skin
her middle finger followed
as she continued to rub her ripe clit
moaning bucking then writhing
before relaxing
face down now to rest
her fingers finding their way north
to slowly caress her firm breast

The distant traffic sounds
lingered through her living room door
as evening lights appeared
to drown out a busy day
longing for her lover
thankful for her chance to play
wanting for his soft warm touch
to anchor back her way
