If I were a child all over again
I would sit aside the pool
hands then arms outstretched
and ask you to hold me
as I lay on my back above you
your arms intertwined in mine
holding me near I would breathe into you
and whisper I love you
again and again
until you understood
how much I love you

when I was a child
I would wrap myself
inside your jacket
to catch the warmth
burying my chin against your heart
divining your soul
to take with me
in the years to come

today I looked for your jacket
it too was buried
I searched for you face
I longed for your touch
my eyes welled with sadness
I miss you so much
