Rain scattered amongst the treetops
toward the end of the day
leaves blew within the wind
as I watched our children play
your stance was terse
at times pensive
in the distance on your phone
later that night I’d hold you
deep inside our home

Time drifted in then out
in tune with our transient moods
I wondered whether you still loved me
during silent brief interludes
maybe I’d reel you back in
when summer came our way
perhaps I’d convince you to travel
seeking rhythm against my sway

I needed you to notice me
I longed for you to stay
